B Mitzvah Services

A bat mitzvah girl gets ready to read Torah while her parents bless and Rabbi Noyo looks on.

Rabbi Noyo believes that every Jewish child deserves to be celebrated when they come of age in the Jewish community! What that looks like for each kid can vary widely.

Some families are members of synagogues and are looking for someone to tutor their child as they prepare for a service with their congregation; other families are unaffiliated and are also looking for someone to help them plan and officiate a service of some kind. Rabbi Noyo is a skilled Hebrew prayer and Torah chanting tutor. She is also able to plan and officiate an independent b mitzvah service.

Rabbi Noyo works closely with the b mitzvah student and their family to prepare for the special day. Whether that day includes a service or another ceremony or ritual, Rabbi Noyo brings a warm and celebratory approach, helping to create an atmosphere that honors the significance of the occasion and feels both spiritually enriching and joyful.

CUSTOM B MITZVAH DESIGN

For unaffiliated families planning an independent service, Rabbi Noyo collaborates with families to design a day that aligns with their aspirations and values. She understands that every student is different - therefore, she does not require every student to do the same thing. A student may or may not chant from a Torah, lead prayers, write and deliver a d'var Torah/sermon, or even have a traditional service. A service may take place in a backyard with no Torah, where the student talks about their Torah portion. Perhaps there is no service, but the family takes a trip to a mikveh (ritual immersion bath) to mark the milestone with a water ceremony, song, and gifts. Whatever is the best way to celebrate how far the student has come is the right way to mark their b mitzvah!

FAMILY SUPPORT

Rabbi Noyo is committed to making the preparation process engaging and supportive, addressing any questions or concerns that arise along the way. She provides support to the family throughout the planning process, offering guidance on additional elements such as assigning honors for guests and other celebratory traditions. If planning a service, she meets with each family at least twice - once at the start of the process to go over the whole service and explain where choices and customization can happen, and once at the end of the process so the student can have a rehearsal. If planning another kind of ceremony, Rabbi Noyo meets with the family to discuss what they are envisioning and again as necessary to bring that vision to life. Her goal is to make the entire experience as smooth and fulfilling as possible, allowing you to focus on celebrating this special moment.

TUTORING

This includes offering one-on-one tutoring sessions to help the b mitzvah student learn their Torah portion and other prayers, understand the significance of their role in the Jewish world, and write their d'var Torah/sermon. Rabbi Noyo can also learn with the student about other topics such as Jewish concepts and values, history and stories, theology, and any of their big questions.
